Okla School of Science and Math
Service Volunteer Opportunity
The mock interviews are designed to help the senior students get some interview experience for potential college interviews, and to get a chance to work on their ‘people skills’. Each of the OSSM seniors will get three one-on-one interviews. Interviewers are asked to give both written and oral feedback on the interview.
There will be a reception after the one-on-one interviews where students get practice making small talk in a reception setting.
In total, there are around 70 interviewers participating in this activity. Interviewers are professionals from the local community.
Dear OSSM Mock Interview Volunteer,
We truly thank you for donating your time to help Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Seniors practice their crucial interview skills on Monday, October 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. Our students are a bit nervous, but excited nonetheless.
Please arrive at the Shedrick Library, which is the front entrance of the school at 1141 North Lincoln Blvd. (10th and Stiles if you set your GPS), and park anywhere. Walk through the library double-doors to check in and receive your interview packet that will include a list of questions. One of our juniors will greet and escort you to the Manning Academic Center (MAC) building. The dress for the evening is business professional.
Plan to join us at 5:30 p.m. for a brief training and logistics meeting in the MAC Auditorium. Should you arrive earlier, you are welcome to come up for refreshments provided in the MAC Reading Room, second floor. However, please be seated in the auditorium by 5:30 p.m.
You will have an office/classroom in which to interview three seniors separately. Interviewees will come to your room. Interviews will last 15 minutes and then you will spend five minutes giving the seniors feedback – both positive and negative. There will be short breaks in-between interviews. After all the interviews are conducted, please join us for refreshments in the Reading Room. There, seniors will practice their light conversation (soft skills) by mingling with guests. Ensure that they introduce themselves, shake hands and engage you in discussion.
The evening will conclude at 7:50 p.m. Seniors will need to report for required study by 8 p.m. You may exit through the open gates at the Gazebo (covered area on walkway before reaching the library) and the parking lot will be in front of you.
We are most appreciative of your valuable time in making our mock interview night a success. Please email or call me directly at 405.410.6404 if you have questions. We are looking forward to seeing you on October 10.
If for some reason you are unable to participate please let me know as soon as possible.
