Lee Symcox, president of First Fidelity Bank was honored as a Beacon Award winner by the Journal Record, the award honors companies for their services to non-profits.

Bob Funk, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Express Employment Professionals was published in the Wall Street Journal. His article was titled “Low Unemployment, High Dissatisfaction.”

Ron Mercer and his wife Yvonne recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

We have a number of members in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention who have been In The News – Mayor Mick Cornett and Governor Mary Fallin have both addressed the convention; Leonard Sullivan is an Oklahoma delegate and Cliff Branan and his wife Connell are covering the convention for FRIDAY Newspaper.

Tuesday evening, July 19 Gail Huneryager and Lou Kohlman were among the inaugural class to be recognized by the Institute for the Economic Empowerment of Women’s 10 for 10 Oklahoma Women Making a Difference Award. IEEW was founded 10 years ago by member Terry Neese to help provide business and leadership skills for women entrepreneurs in Rwanda and Afghanistan.


Mary Mélon and Mary Jane Calvey have as their guests several Rwandan women who are here participating in the Peace Through Business programs of the Institute for the Economic Empowerment of Women. Mary and Mary Jane are working with them to apply for a Rotary Global Grant to equip a Women’s Business Center in Kigali City Rwanda so that graduates of the Peace through Business programs can “pay it forward” and have a well-equipped classroom where they can teach other entrepreneurs about starting and growing businesses in their country. Would our guests from Rwanda please stand. I hope you have had or will have the opportunity to welcome these special visitors to our club.
