Back to the Future
by Jan Peery

Tired of posts on the world of a pandemic? Me, too! This not another post about Covid-19, the pandemic, suffering, losing, vaccinating, healing, or getting back into the office. Rather, it is about pushing your pause button and having a real moment of self-reflection, clarity and remembering the biggest life lessons that were just gifted to us. We can’t change the past, but we certainly can change what paths we take in the future.
Hopefully, in 2021, we are now a little wiser and identifying new opportunities for change and healing. As we are increasingly re-entering or re-engaging with our peers and community, are we looking for the pearls of wisdom from an incredibly challenging year?
Remember the Movie “Back to the Future”? Ever wish you could go back in time and “advise” a younger version of you to impact your future? Imagine today, you could jump into that “1985 DMC DeLorean” flip on the “flux capacitor”, hit 88 mph, and travel back in time just one year! What would you change?
Ask yourself…In the past fourteen months:

What did I learn?”
“What do I regret?”
“What things were at one time essential, now seem ridiculously non-essential?”
“Who did I lose?“
“How did I grow?”
“What became clear?”
And the one we are concentrating on today, “What would I do different?”

If you had the ability to go back fifteen months ago, pre-pandemic, what would you put in place to make your business, workplace, or personal life better today? Knowing what you know today, what advice and hard-learned lessons would you want branded in your mind so history would not repeat itself?
What conversations would you engage in deeper? Whose faces would you study harder? With whom would you stick around to laugh a little louder?
Who would you check on and listen to longer?
Whether it is in our businesses or our personal lives, we always want to be the best of who we are…give our all to what we do…
Always remember, we can’t change yesterday…today is a “present”…and tomorrow is a promise. “BE” the best you can give to the world.
