Deena K. Fisher, a board member since 2006, currently serves as president of the Oklahoma Historical Society. Fisher is a dean/professor emeritus at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Oklahoma State University, and two masters’ in social science education and school counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

In 2006, she graduated from the Institute for Management and Leadership in Higher Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Fisher is an active member of the National Association of Branch Campus Administrators and serves as a mentor, coach, and guest lecturer.

She coauthored Woodward (Past and Present) (Arcadia Publishing, 2021) and an Oklahoma history textbook, Oklahoma: Land of Contrasts (Clairmont Press, 2006), writing all the teacher’s materials.

Among her many recognitions, she was inducted into the Journal Record’s Woman of the Year Circle of Excellence (2012) and received the Light of Rotary District Award in 2014–15. Currently, she serves as District Governor Nominee and will be District Governor in 2022–23. Fisher is a former board member and proud graduate of Leadership Oklahoma Class XXIV. In addition, she was named Woodward Citizen of the Year in 2009.

Fisher has served on several boards of civic organizations and currently serves on the Citizens Advisory Board for William S. Key, the Hope Center Food Bank, Plains Indian and Pioneer Museum, and Friends of Fort Supply. She also proudly serves on the boards of the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame.

She is married to Tom, a retired educator and administrator. They have four children and five grandchildren.

 

Rotary Club 29 Foundation presentation by Chair Tim Dowd, and Treasurer Matt Bown

Mr. Dowd has vast experience in oil and gas title examination, transactions and civil litigation representing oil and gas clients for over twenty-five years. Mr. Dowd has represented international and independent oil and gas companies and individuals. Additionally, Mr. Dowd has been a noted lecturer at over 100 seminars and CLE presentations.

Mr. Dowd is a past President of the Oklahoma City Mineral Lawyers Society as well as past Chairman of the Oklahoma Bar Association Mineral Law Section. Mr. Dowd is also a member of the legal committee of Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, the Advisory Counsel to the Marginal Well Commission of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City Advisory Committee for the Center for Environment and Energy. Mr. Dowd is also the author of the Chapter on Oil and Gas Titles in West Publishing Company’s Oklahoma Real Estate Forms and Practice.

 

In his role as chief operating officer, Matt Bown has primary responsibility for managing the business and financial operations of the state’s largest law firm. In addition to working directly with the managing director and board of directors on firm-wide growth, risk management, organizational development, and profitability initiatives, he oversees the firm’s administrative, finance, facilities, technology, human resources, and business development divisions.

Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from Drury University and is a certified public accountant. He began his career in public accounting, spending nine years with KPMG. He then joined the Dean McGee Eye Institute for 19 years, serving as the executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Matt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Legal Administrators. Active in the community, he currently serves on the board of directors of the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City and the Committee of One Hundred.

Matt also previously served as president of the Oklahoma City All Sports Association and the Committee of One Hundred, as well as served on the boards of Leadership Oklahoma City, Community Literacy Centers, and the Breech School of Business at Drury University.  In 2016, he was honored with Leadership Oklahoma City’s Paragon Award for exemplary service to the community.

Chair of the Day

As President of Leadership Oklahoma, Dr. Marion Paden is responsible for adult and youth programs, fundraising, community relations, and board management. Prior to her current position, Marion was VP for Student Services at Oklahoma City Community College for more than 20 years. A Licensed Professional Counselor, she has a doctorate in higher education, a master’s degree in student personnel and counseling, and a bachelor’s in psychology.

Balancing a career with community involvement, Marion has served on the boards of numerous state and national organizations including the College Board, Sister Cities International, American Red Cross, and Junior League. It was under her leadership as President of the Rotary Club of OKC that it first became the world’s largest Rotary Club. A graduate of Leadership Oklahoma Class XXI and Leadership OKC Class XI, Marion is the only person to have served as Program Co-Chair for Leadership Oklahoma City’s adult, young adult, and high school programs, and as Alumni Association President.

Recognition of her many civic and professional contributions include membership in the Inaugural Class of 55 over 55 Inspiring Oklahomans and induction into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame, the Association of Women in Communications Bylines and the Journal Record’s Circle of Excellence, and The Oklahoman’s 21st Century Women. While at Oklahoma City Community College, Oklahoma State Regent John Massey established a scholarship in her honor to recognize students that serve their communities while achieving their educational goals.

A curious and avid traveler, Marion has toured five continents to visit historical sites, meet interesting people, discover unique foods/drinks, and spend time with family and friends. Marion shares her home with Spencer, a rescued Yorkie. She recently became engaged to former Club 29 member Rowell Sargent… no wedding date yet.
