Forward Momentum
by Charlie Price

When the new year arrives, it’s only natural that we shift our focus to what lies ahead.

As I look toward the future, I’m committed to being more intentional about how and where I spend my time, and I suspect I’m not the only one aspiring to make my days count.

As Rotarians, we’re familiar with the organization’s wheel emblem. Born in 1905 and unchanged since 1929, it’s symbolic of civilization, movement and service work in action, and today—more than a century since its inception—it remains a reminder of the kind of forward momentum we can achieve when we work together.

It’s not lost on me that the Rotary wheel represents both the enduring nature of connection and the fleeting nature of time. As the wheel turns, so does time—always moving us forward, together.

Of course, we can’t move forward together if we’re on completely different paths. Cultural divides seem so wide these days that sometimes it feels like bridging the gap is impossible. However, it’s connection—not isolation—that often leads to the realization that we ultimately have more in common than what separates us.

Time together is always time well spent. For Rotarians, it’s about more than just networking at weekly meetings or service activities; it’s about building meaningful relationships that transcend industries or backgrounds. Rotary creates space for people of all walks of life to build lasting personal and professional connections. In turn, that fellowship enables us to put our heads together to come up with solutions that lead to powerful, lasting change in our communities.

It’s also important to consider our time as a gift, and one of the best ways we can give our time is in service of others. Club 29 members have historically been generous with their time, and I’m optimistic that won’t change this year. Every moment we invest in others brings us closer to the future we want to see, and I look forward to spending more of my time this year on service-related activities.

As we assess what the year may hold for us, I hope you will join me in taking this opportunity to renew a commitment to the Rotarian concepts that are at the heart of everything we do. Here’s to a year of service, connection and moving in the right direction.
