James H. Spann, Jr. is the Founder and General Partner of Boyd Street Ventures, a Norman-based venture capital firm dedicated to scaling high-growth, under-the-radar companies in healthcare, life sciences, and infrastructure technology. Drawing on more than 30 years of leadership across global healthcare and life sciences, James combines deep operational expertise with a proven track record of driving growth, innovation, and strategic transformation.
His career spans senior roles at Baxter Healthcare, Roche Diagnostics, Medline Industries, AmerisourceBergen, Aramark Healthcare, and IBM Watson Health, where he consistently led multimillion-dollar P&Ls, launched new service lines, and delivered more than $500M in business development and market expansion. James also served as a U.S. Marine Corps officer, where he honed his leadership and strategic skills.
A proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma and member of the President’s Leadership Class, James founded Boyd Street Ventures in 2021 to unlock research-driven innovation and accelerate startups often overlooked by coastal capital. He spearheaded the firm’s Venture Studio model, combining capital with hands-on operational support through a network of 20+ advisors.
James serves on multiple boards, including CAHME, HeartCloud, VesprSolar, LSL Healthcare, Vital Care Industries, and has been recognized as one of “OKC Metro’s Most Influential Leaders.”
