Lou Berney is the author of the novels Dark Ride (Sept. 19, 2023), November Road, The Long and Faraway Gone, Whiplash River, and Gutshot Straight. His books have won the Edgar, Hammett, Steel Dagger, Barry, Macavity, Lefty, and Anthony awards, and he has been a finalist twice for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. His short fiction has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, Ploughshares, and the Pushcart Prize anthology. He teaches in the MFA program at Oklahoma City University.

 

 

 

 

Chair of the Day

Susan McVey is the State Librarian Emerita.  She retired from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries with thirty-two years of service to the state agency and was director for seventeen years.  Prior to the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Susan was director of the Dulaney-Browne Library at Oklahoma City University.  Susan received her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, a Masters in Library Science from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma.

Susan was active in state and national professional library associations.  She was president of the Oklahoma Library Association and as president of the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies, the national organization of state librarians.  She was honored with the Oklahoma Library Association’s Distinguished Service Award and was one of 100 Library Legends selected to celebrate the association’s centennial.

A member of Club 29 since 2001, Susan is a Paul Harris Fellow +1, serves on the Club 29 World Service Committee, and is the co-chair for the Club 29 Breakfast Committee.  She is married to Paul King.
