Michelle Coppedge was named the Executive Director of the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City in April 2013. The Aeronautical Center is the centralized service and support facility for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) and home to more than 6,300 Federal and contract employees, with an annual operational budget of $1 billion. It is the second largest FAA facility, outside of WDC. The Aeronautical Center encompasses more than 1,100 acres and has 138 buildings. The services and customer base include:
The Enterprise Services Center which provides information technology and financial management services to DOT and
multiple other federal agencies. With approximately 1,200 federaland contract employees, the ESC earns annual revenues of more
than $150 million.
• The FAA Academy which conducts technical training and educates a yearly average of 87,000 students, 2,200 classes per year, and approximately 1,000-1,200 students per day. The
Academy is the primary provider of technical training for the FAA and global community reaching participants from 172 countries, and accredited through the North Central Association
Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) – AdvancED Corporation & Distance Education.
• The FAA Logistics Center which provides centralized maintenance, overhaul and repair and supply chain management of National Airspace Systems (NAS) and equipment. The Logistics Center manages more than 63,000 items worth approximately $600M and services more than 69,000 systems throughout the world.
Prior to this role, Michelle served as the Executive Director of the Logistics Center (FAALC) at the Aeronautical Center, responsible for repair, maintenance and distribution of over 100,000 shipments
and receipts annually of aviation related equipment across the nation.
Before joining the FAA in 2004, Michelle was the Engineering Director, Integrated Network Solutions (INS), for Lucent Technologies, where she managed all aspects of business planning, project
management, New Product Introduction (NPI) and strategy formation for the 5ESS (Class Five Electronic Switching System) and Any Media Product lines, a $3B business line. She has extensive
experience with World Class Manufacturing & Repair leading strategy formation, supply chain management activities and maintaining financial budgets and income statements.
Additionally, Michelle has extensive international experience leading globally dispersed teams through factory start-ups and managing New Product Introductions and product ramp-ups in Europe (Spain and Poland), Asia (Taiwan and China), Brazil, Russia and Saudi markets. She has led supply chain reengineering efforts at manufacturing, repair and distribution centers in Spain, Poland, Brazil, China, Taiwan, India and the USA.
Michelle holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. In 2009, she graduated from the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and was part of FAA’s Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP) class of graduates. Michelle is married to Bill Coppedge and they have two children: Noah and Nicole.
