Trait ThompsonOklahoma Historical Society (OHS) Board of Directors has selected Trait Thompson as the executive director. He reported for duty on January 4, 2021.

Thompson began his career with the state as policy director for former Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman. During that four-year service, Thompson read every bill submitted to the senate, met with citizens from across the state and learned how to work with others to achieve shared goals. For the past six years, he has been the project manager for the Oklahoma Capitol Restoration Project, shepherding the preservation and restoration of one of Oklahoma’s most important historical artifacts—the State Capitol.

 

Chair of the Day

Senator Julia Kirt was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2018 representing District 30 in northwest Oklahoma City. Senator Kirt has championed investments in public education and an economy with opportunity for all families through her service on the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committees. She has championed Oklahomans access to mental health treatment as a founding member and Co-Chair of the Legislative Mental Health Caucus.

Before her election, Senator Kirt led statewide arts and culture nonprofit organizations for almost 20 years. She received a Governors Arts Award for her work at Oklahomans for the Arts and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters in Art History and Macalester College in St Paul, MN with a Bachelors.

Kirt lives in Oklahoma City with her husband, Nathan Guilford, and their two children, Roger and Lila. The family participates actively at their church, St Paul’s Episcopal and volunteers at the children’s Oklahoma City Public Schools.
