Girl Scouts of Western Okla. – First Urban Camp in America

Panelists:  Farooq Karim and Linda Whittington

Farooq Karim has been with REES Architecture for more than 25 years, where he serves as Vice President and Director of Design. He has a passion for working collaboratively with clients to develop creative solutions for their projects. As both an architect and interior designer, Farooq has the ability to develop holistic and integrated design solutions for projects. Farooq has been involved in over 200 projects in the state of Oklahoma, across the United States and internationally in the broadcast, healthcare, higher education, government and corporate commercial segments.

Farooq is very involved in the community and is active in numerous organizations, a few of which include, Leadership Oklahoma Class XXX, Leadership Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City Arts Council, Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.

Farooq is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and he also holds the distinction of being the most committed college football fan in the office, having not missed an OU home football game since 1975.


Linda Whittington is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma.

She has spent the majority of her career in the Oil and Gas business, where she worked for several companies. She has been with Corner Energy Oil and Gas Production since 2000. She has also been the owner of Fabrics Unlimited Retail fabrics, accessories and furniture since 2015.

Linda has been a member of the Association of Desk and Derrick Club since 1977 and has served as the OKC president. In addition she is a member of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board and Oklahoma Energy Producers Alliance.

Linda is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma City Class XXII. She is very active in the Presbyterian Church, where she has been an Ordained Elder since 1982. She is also active with too many community groups and boards to name, a few of which include, the Arts Council of OKC, The Children’s Center, Myriad Gardens Foundation, Civic Center Foundation and Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma.

As a result of her volunteerism and philanthropy, Linda has won many awards. Some of these include United States Energy Woman of the Year, Oklahoma Women in in Energy, Leadership OKC Paragon Award and the Juliette Low Philanthropy Award Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma.


Chair of the Day

Emily Stratton is a founding trustee of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and joined the staff as executive director in 1999. As foundation director, she oversees administration, programming and fundraising. Prior to joining the foundation, Emily served as director of development and communications for the University of Oklahoma Max Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts. From 1987 to 1996, she was executive director of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. Emily serves on the boards of OU’s Jeanine Rainbolt College of Education and the OU School of Dance and is active in the Downtown Rotary Club of Oklahoma City, where she was named Rotarian of the Year in 2009. She is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma and has served on its Board of Directors. Emily is a founding member of the Oklahoma Arts Institute and the Clinton Public School Foundation, for which she served as interim president. She earned her bachelor’s degree from OU, majoring in English and minoring in math and French.
