Philip Keith Armstrong is a native of Ohio and has been in Tulsa for 25 years. He holds a Bachelor’s in Mass Communications from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Akron. Phil has a varied background working both in the corporate and non-profit sectors, as well as an entrepreneur in the restaurant industry
In 2019 he was hired by the Tulsa Community Foundation as Project Director for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission to lead all coordination for fundraising, educational curriculum, economic development initiatives and all construction projects; most notably, the building of the world class history center, Greenwood Rising. In July 2021, he was tasked with leading the history center through its infancy as the Interim Executive Director. Within the first year, Greenwood Rising significantly surpassed expectations of foot traffic with over 60,000 visitors from around the United States, as well as visitors from around the world.
In 2023, Phil accepted the role of President and CEO for the Oklahoma Center for Community & Justice (“OCCJ”). The mission of OCCJ, a statewide organization, is to inspire and equip Oklahomans to overcome bias, bigotry and oppression through interfaith community work and youth educational programming.
Phil has been active in the Tulsa community serving on several non-profit boards, most notably Reading Partners of Tulsa, Tulsa Regional Chamber Board of Directors, Tulsa Opera Board, Arvest Bank Board of Directors for the Tulsa Market and past board chair of the Greenwood Cultural Center.
He is a Leadership Tulsa graduate, a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club of Tulsa, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.
Phil and wife Monique reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They have a blended blessing of Five children, and recently welcomed their first grandson.
