Japan 2016! It is THE place to be for two weeks in June.  Be a guest of Rotary District 2520 as it hosts Rotary District 5750. Visit 4 to 5 cities, English-speaking guides (Rotarians, of course, and their associates). Tour the wonderfully obligatory museums, shrines, temples, and castles. Experience the culture of tea ceremony, onsen, samurai, and Japanese dance.  Visit schools. Be amazed, then inspired, then humbled by their culture. Feast on beautifully prepared and delicious food.  Homestays with Rotarian families, who are hosts extraordinaire. The Japanese define the word “hospitality” in the superlative.  The family stays are the centerpiece of the trip.  “Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?”  Absolutely!

Cost is only for plane fare and bullet train. It is priced at $2300, and would make the most wonderful holiday/birthday/whatever gift you could imagine. All other expenses covered, and then some by our two districts!  This trip is the Wings of Rotary trip, over 30 years wherein the Miyagi and Iwate prefectures District 2520 and our District 5750 exchange students for short-term stays.

It is intended for rising high school juniors and seniors and do not need to be from Rotary families.  The application may be found on the District 5750 website under the committee tab: here  Further information may be obtained from Keith Oehlert, kboehlert@gmail.com405 590 6216, or to our District Wings Chair Kelly Johnson, kjohnson@myqualitywater.com .  Both Kelly and I were honored to be the team leaders June 2015 with 9 students.

Jackie is the student who applied through our Club 29:

WIngs_LogoDear Rotary Club 29,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jackqueline Pham and I am a senior at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM). I would like to thank the Wings of Rotary for helping me achieve a childhood dream of mine. As a little girl, I was always fascinated with Japan and dreamed of being able to go there one day. During the Summer I was given the wonderful opportunity finally to go to Japan for two weeks and experience lifestyle of Japan. I got to see many wonderful sights including different shrines, temples, and castles. I met so many wonderful people and made so many new friends, some of who were a part of my host families.

I would strongly recommend to anyone interested in experiencing different cultures to go on this trip. I would like once again to express my thanks towards the Wings of Rotary and Rotary Club 29 for helping me realize a childhood dream and also to Mrs. Keith Oehlert for helping me through both the application process and the stay in Japan.
