Made in Oklahoma Panel: Emily Shuping, MIO; Ed Clements, Clements Foods
Emily Shuping has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry since 2016 where she serves as the Executive Director for the Made in Oklahoma (MIO) Coalition. The MIO Coalition, comprised of over 100 local food and beverage manufacturers, is one of the largest public-private partnerships in the state.
In her role as Executive Director, Emily oversees the operations of the MIO Coalition while serving as a liaison between the coalition and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
Shuping is a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University having received her bachelor’s degree in agribusiness and her master’s degree in international agriculture from the Ferguson College of Agriculture in 2015 and 2019.
Emily is a graduate of Class XX the Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Program and was selected as the 2022 recipient of the Ferguson College of Agriculture Early Career Achievement Award. Emily was honored as a 2021 Woman of Influence in the Food Industry by the Shelby- Griffin Report. Additionally, Shuping and serves as a member of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food Resource Committee, sits on the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and serves as the Northeast District Director for the Oklahoma Cattlewomen’s Association.
Emily is married to her college sweetheart Logan and is a proud mom of two girls, Ellis (2) and Scottie (6 months). They reside in Pawhuska, OK.
Edward Clements was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and earned his BBA at Southern Methodist University with an emphasis in finance and logistics and he earned his MBA at the University of Oklahoma with an emphasis in marketing. In 1985, he returned to the family business as the Assistant Sales Manager. Edward assumed a pro-active role in leadership with the development of geographic marketing and distribution channels and merged PC and mid-range computing technologies into the entire business. Edward assumed a leadership position of Vice President of Clements Foods in 1993 with a focus on increasing manufacturing technology and the delivery of highest quality products. In 1998, Edward took over the leadership of the company as President and CEO with a sure direction in best manufacturing, marketing, logistics and sales practices.
Active in the community, Edward is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Oklahoma City, serves on the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma Board of Directors, member of the Industry Advisory Committee for Robert M. Kerr Food, serves on the American Peanut Council Board of Directors, Lyric Theater of Oklahoma City Board of Directors, and member and chair of the Agricultural Products Center.
Edward and his wife of over 40 years, Matilda, have one daughter, Caitlin Clements, and one son, Bryant Clements, Jr.
Clements Food Company was founded by Mr. Richard J. Clements in 1952 in Oklahoma City on the site where Clements Foods in located today. The son, Mr. Richard H. Clements was a sound and visionary businessman, and he led the business in growth with a solid reputation as a manufacturer of quality branded and private label fruit preserves and jellies, syrups, mayonnaise and salad dressings, barbeque sauces, mustards, vinegar and peanut butter. Mr. Ed Clements is the third generation leader of Clements Food Company and he has expanded their products and business to national brands and national wholesalers and suppliers through highly effective marketing programs, quality products and effective customer-directed services.
The main facility in Oklahoma City has 190,000 square feet of production and storage space, with nine (9) continuous and batch production lines. The Lewisville, Texas facility has 40,000 square feet of production and storage space, completely allocated to the production of peanut butter, yielding finished product at a rate of 10,000 pounds per hour.
Recent financial results revealed total annual revenue to be $80 million with a case production output of 5.5 million units. The Clements Food Company employs about 230 full-time employees. The Clements Food Company enjoyed an earned 10% sales growth in recent peanut butter, mayonnaise and dressings market, with the major growth market in the Western United States and in selected export markets.
