A native of northwest Oklahoma, Professor Tony Cornforth began his career with the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) in 2002 as the inaugural mathematics professor at the Ardmore Regional Center. From 2004 to 2007, he served on the faculty at the residential campus in Oklahoma City as a member of the Mathematics Department.

In 2007, Professor Cornforth played a pivotal role in launching the Wayne Regional Center, where he served as the inaugural physics instructor and later assumed responsibility for both mathematics and science instruction. During his 14 years at the Wayne Regional Center, 287 students completed the program, achieving notable gains in ACT performance and earning top scores on Advanced Placement examinations. Under his guidance, 17 students were recognized as Oklahoma Academic All-State honorees.

In 2021, Professor Cornforth returned to the residential campus for a second tenure as a member of the Mathematics Department. In January 2023, he was unanimously elected by the OSSM Board of Trustees to serve as the institution’s third president.

“OSSM is the exemplar of science and mathematics education in Oklahoma. Our mission is to provide premier academic opportunities for our state’s most talented high school students, and we must pursue that mission with unwavering focus and determination.” – President Tony Cornforth
