“School in the Time of Coronavirus”
With more than three decades of experience in education, Dr. Sean McDaniel was named Superintendent for Oklahoma City Public Schools in July 2018, shortly after being recognized as the Oklahoma Superintendent of the Year by his peers. In his short time at OKCPS, McDaniel successfully led the state’s largest urban district through Pathway To Greatness, a reinvention initiative to align district facilities and resources with instructional needs, ultimately providing equitable access to a world class education for nearly 44,000 students.This monumental effort resulted in the closure of 15 schools, new boundaries covering 130+ square miles, and the launch of a new district brand for the first time in more than 20 years.
Senator Julia Kirt was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2018. Kirt represents District 30 in northwest Oklahoma County, which includes parts of Oklahoma City, Bethany, Warr Acres and The Village.
Kirt is an experienced community leader who has led statewide nonprofit organizations for almost 20 years. She most recently served as the Executive Director of Oklahomans for the Arts, which works to improve the economy, education and communities through the arts.
Kirt graduated from Leadership OKC Class XXI. She received a Governor’s Arts Award in 2014. Kirt is an active volunteer leader in many educational, community & arts nonprofit organizations.
She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters in Art History and Macalester College in St Paul, MN with a Bachelors.
Kirt lives in Oklahoma City with her husband, Nathan Guilford, and their two children, Roger and Lila. Nathan owns a small business in NW OKC. The family participates actively at their church, St Paul’s Episcopal. The children attend Oklahoma City Public Schools, where Kirt volunteers extensively.
