District Matching Grants and Club 29 OnePledge
“One of the ways your One Pledge money is used to serve others” – Joyce Clark
District grants are an excellent opportunity for Rotary clubs to extend their dollars for a very worthy local project or even abroad.
Our Club’s Foundation matches the District Grant with 1/3 of the total project cost.
Hopefully you noticed the big truck parked outside at the May 28 Rotary Meeting. This cargo box truck is our 2018-19 District Grant Project. It is the Welcome Wagon for the Homeless Alliance and is used to move people into housing, and to pick up donated furniture, food, & other helpful items. The Club 29 logo is printed on both sides of the truck.
Total project cost was $28,900. Our Club Foundation contributed more than the required 1/3 of the project cost ($11,750) so that we could provide this truck to the Homeless Alliance and help so many in our local community.
Since 2015-16, Rotary Club of Oklahoma City has used District Grants to purchase:
Beds, comforter sets, & storage cubes for Genesis Project which is home to boys who have been traumatically abused. $18,074
Items for Alzheimer’s Association’s Caregiver Survival Packs $5,765
Dictionaries for the library and classrooms at Gatewood Elementary School $3,051
Reading centers, headphones, and cassette and CD players for Gatewood Elementary School $3,051
Travel expenses for Rotarians to participate in international projects $10,000
The 2019-20 project pending District approval is to purchase sports jerseys and equipment for the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League.
Our Club has flexibility in selecting a project serving the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.
Applications submitted for the Club’s annual project are often reviewed and considered for District Grant projects.
District Grants are used to purchase tangible items and cannot be used for labor or operations expenses.
